FC Pune City announced the signing of Antonio Lopez Habas as their head coach for the third season of the Indian Super League (ISL), on Monday. Habas, who was associated with Atletico de Kolkata for the first two seasons of the ISL will now officially take charge of the Deccan side. It must be noted that Goal had revealed of the former Valencia's coach's appointment back in February.
The Spaniard will replace Englishman and former Manchester City assistant coach, David Platt.
Speaking at his appointment, Antonio Habas pointed it was that the professionalism with which the club is being run is was what convinced him to move to the Maharashtra-based franchise.
"The commitment of the (FC Pune City) management for having me as a part of the club and all its planning from the beginning was one of the primary reasons for me to join. This certainly is one of the most professionally managed club in the league and changing their fortunes will be a challengethat I am eagerly looking forward to.” Habas said.
FC Pune City Co-owner Hrithik Roshan hopes that Habas' appointment will help them win the ISL season three.
“The club is continuing to move forward and Habas’ appointment shows the commitment of the club to achieve success in the new season,” said Hrithik.
Habas led Atletico de Kolkata to ISL glory in the opening season of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters in the final. The Sourav Ganguly co-owned franchise managed to make their way to the semi-finals under his tutelage, but were knocked out by Marco Materazzi's Chennaiyin FC in 2015.
